These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of SpendFox, a mobile application developed by Brightfield Software ("we", "our", or "us"). By downloading or using SpendFox, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the app.
Brightfield Software grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use SpendFox for personal, lawful purposes, in accordance with these Terms and applicable laws.
You may not:
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and controlling access to the app.
No User Accounts
SpendFox does not require or support user accounts. There is no sign-up, no login, no email address, and no password. Your financial data is stored on your device, not on our servers.
This means:
This is a deliberate design choice, not a limitation - it means we cannot build a profile of you, track your usage over time, or associate your financial data with your identity.
SpendFox, its content, code, design, and related materials are the intellectual property of Brightfield Software or its licensors.
Nothing in these Terms grants you ownership of any intellectual property rights.
Your use of SpendFox is subject to our Privacy Policy, which explains how data is handled.
SpendFox is designed to minimise data collection and prioritise on-device processing. Please review the Privacy Policy for full details.
SpendFox uses Apple's App Attest framework to verify that the app communicating with our servers is a genuine, unmodified copy. This protects both you and our infrastructure - it prevents modified or counterfeit versions of the app from accessing the service, without requiring you to create an account or identify yourself.
If your device cannot complete this verification - for example, because the app has been modified or is running in an unsupported environment - access to features that require our servers (such as bank synchronisation) may be unavailable. On-device features that do not require server access will continue to work normally.
We aim to provide reliable and well-maintained software, but we do not guarantee that:
We may update, modify, or discontinue features at any time to improve functionality or address technical issues.
Usage Limits
To protect the service for all users, certain features are subject to usage limits (for example, the number of requests that can be made in a given time period). These limits are designed to be well above normal usage. If you encounter a limit, the app will let you know, and you can try again shortly.
SpendFox uses third-party services where necessary to provide features you choose to enable. These include:
Brightfield Software's own servers are hosted within the European Union. What each service receives and how your data is handled is described in the Privacy Policy.
Brightfield Software is not responsible for third-party services and their content, availability, or practices. Use of such services is subject to their respective terms.
Certain features of SpendFox allow you to connect financial accounts through a third-party financial connectivity provider, Enable Banking AS, which facilitates connections to European bank accounts.
By using these features, you authorise Brightfield Software and its service providers to access, retrieve, and transmit your financial account information solely to provide the functionality you request within the app. This includes the processing described in the Privacy Policy, such as tidying up transaction names and looking up merchant logos.
Brightfield Software does not control the availability, accuracy, or completeness of information provided by financial institutions or third-party connectivity providers and is not responsible for errors, delays, interruptions, or changes in such information.
Access to financial account information is provided only with your explicit authorisation and may be revoked by you at any time by disconnecting the relevant account within the app.
Bank Consent Periods
When you connect a European bank account, the connection is governed by a consent period set by your bank, typically 90 days under Open Banking regulations. When this period expires, you will need to reconnect your bank to continue synchronising. This is a requirement of your bank's security policies, not a limitation of SpendFox.
Connections that are no longer active are automatically cleaned up by our systems. No transaction data is retained after a connection ends.
SpendFox is provided for informational and personal budgeting purposes only and does not constitute financial, investment, legal, or tax advice.
Transaction names, merchant categories, and other labels displayed in the app are generated or improved automatically and may not always be accurate. For example, a transaction name tidied from a bank's raw description might not perfectly match the original merchant, and a category assigned automatically might not reflect how you would categorise the transaction yourself.
Brightfield Software makes no representations or warranties regarding the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of financial information displayed in the app.
You are solely responsible for reviewing and verifying financial information and for making any financial decisions based on that information.
SpendFox allows you to report problems and, optionally, to share additional diagnostic information to help us investigate issues. These features are described in the Privacy Policy.
If you choose to open a support session or send a crash report:
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, your use of SpendFox is at your own risk.
Brightfield Software shall not be liable for:
Brightfield Software is not liable for inaccuracies, interruptions, delays, or failures caused by financial institutions or third-party financial connectivity providers.
SpendFox is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
We may suspend or terminate access to SpendFox if these Terms are violated, if continued operation becomes impractical, or if we are required to do so by law or regulation.
You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it from your device. Because SpendFox does not have user accounts, uninstalling the app removes your locally stored data. There is no server-side data to "close" or "deactivate" - the small amount of operational data described in the Privacy Policy (such as your app verification key) can be deleted on request or will expire automatically.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Notwithstanding the above, if you are a consumer resident in the EU, you will also benefit from any mandatory protections afforded by the laws of your country of residence.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page, and the "Last updated" date will be revised accordingly.
Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
